Splash! has been axed by ITV due to a severe drop in ratings, in other word, because people could care less about watching it. Tom Daily’s Splash career is over, but ITV bosses say they like him and will try to find him work on other shows. The series was won by Eddie the Eagle and Diversity’s Perry Kiely.
ITV bosses have sunk Splash! by axing the show after ratings took a nosedive.
The series , which featured Olympian Tom Daley trying to turn stars into divers, was won by Eddie the Eagle and Diversity’s Perry Kiely.
The first run last year attracted 6.5million viewers for the final, but 4.4million tuned in this year. Some even questioned if it was a spoof.
Presenter Tim Lovejoy asked at the time: “Is the joke on me? Am I being filmed on my sofa?”
Memorable contestants included comedians Helen Lederer, so scared she could barely climb up to the board, and tubby Omid Djalili.
An ITV insider said a third series had been hanging in the balance as bronze medallist Daley prepares for the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
The insider added: “Tom’s diving comes first. But we love having him on the channel and are looking at other projects for him.”

Splash! is over after losing a couple of million viewers, but Tom Daily is positive his career won’t be affected. The show itself, which attempted to turn silver screen stars into divers, had an initial burst of interest but lost viewers due to uneventful content. It was the best decision to make to keep ITV as the top television series contender in the UK.
