London, Mar 6 (ANI): English actor and rapper Ashley Walters has been lined up for the role of Laurie Cunningham, who was the first black footballer to play for England, in a feature film on the legend’s life.
According to lead producer Leo Perlman, the film team has spoken to Walters, who stars in the British TV series Top Boy, about the project, adding that they have also contacted Hurt Locker star Anthony Mackie for the role, the Sun reports.
Perlman further said that they have selected British actor James Corden, who is the writer and actor of the British TV sitcom Gavin and Stacey, for the role of Cunningham’s coach Big Ron Atkinson.
Perlman will produce the film with production company Fulwell 73, who are also behind an ITV documentary about the player called ‘First Among Equals: The Laurie Cunningham Story’, which follows the footballer’s rise to fame before he was killed in a car crash aged just 33, the report added. (ANI)
