ITV Pushing for Simon Cowell to Return to UK’s X-Factor

Simon Cowell is being summonsed back to X-Factor by ITV.  There’s no wonder why — he made the show, literally and through his on-stage performance. Simon is a natural for X-Factor and without him, not only did the show lose it’s cutting-edge appeal, but it lost a lot of viewers as well.  Will Simon Cowell return to the UK X-Factor? Let’s hope he does!

The British broadcaster is looking to extend the run of the singing show and “Britain’s Got Talent” beyond this year.

LONDON – U.K. broadcaster ITV is making another push to get Simon Cowell to return as a judge on the U.K. edition of X Factor as part of negotiations to extend the talent show’s run here beyond its upcoming 10th season.

A current three-year contract between ITV, producer Syco, the Cowell joint venture with Sony Music, and co-producer FremantleMedia for talent shows X Factorand Britain’s Got Talent expires at the end of the year.

BGT still uses Cowell in a judging role and has continued to bring in strong ratings, leaving industry observers to expect a renewal after its recently finished seventh season.

X Factor‘s ratings, meanwhile, have also continued to make the show one of ITV’s biggest, but they have declined in recent seasons as Cowell has focused on the U.S. version, leading to recurring calls for his return. Last year’s season finale drew the lowest ratings for a final episode of the show in Britain since 2006.

The Guardian reported on Wednesday that ITV is looking to sign new contracts for both shows, but is pushing Cowell to commit to an X Factor return.
If it doesn’t manage to get that, the company may offer only a two-year renewal or lower terms, it said.

Simon Cowell was the main event of X-Factor in my opinion. Since he left it went downhill very fast. His feisty, cutting remarks and his great humour and wonderful smile made watching X-Factor fun even through the bad auditions. His on-screen antics and frivolous arguments with other judges all made it even better. Come back Simon — I’ll start watching X-Factor again and so will so many others that dropped out after you left.
