The 2013 series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here has started.
All the celebrities for this year’s show touched down safely in Australia last week and enjoyed a few days of relaxation and pampering at nearby luxury hotels before setting off on their journey into the Australian outback where there basecamp was set up.
It was 7.05am in Australia when we got out first glimpses of the celebrities arriving. Of course we all knew who would be taking part but it was still very exciting to see them all come in.
The series of course would not be the same without much loved presenting duo Ant and Dec taking us through each step of the celebrities journeys. Their familiarity and easy going matey style make them great to watch and we of course laughed along with them as they cracked jokes about the celebrities chances of survival.
We watched the celebrities chatting about their fears for what might happen to them during their time in the jungle, some no doubt likely to come true! Of course the weather in true jungle style was dark and wet while the rest of Australia remained glorious and sunny as per its usual climate.
The first four celebrities to enter the jungle were Joey, Lucy, Steve and Alfonso who met up on a flash boat after jumping from a helicopter and were told by Ant and Dec they had to rescue the others who had become stranded on a nearby island. They were separated into two teams, yellow and red and immediately to competition began as the ones who picked up the most would be awarded a night in a luxury camp.
Joey Essex who is newly single suggested they only look for ‘fit birds’ to join them, which was not quite the point but that didn’t seem to bother him. They firstly picked up Rebecca Adlington leaving Kian to join the yellow team comprising of Lucy and Alfonso who were lagging behind. They then unsurprisingly plumped for Miss Great Britain Amy Willerton and next Laila (Big Mo). The winning team then jetted off for one more night in comfort leaving the others to head to the more basic camp.
Of course there were many more fun and games to come in the first episode of the show with the bush tucker trial not to disappoint! The surprise bush tucker trial came after their first night under the stars and there were tears and tantrums when the celebrities discovered that they would be trapped down on the aptly named ‘turntable of terror’ with Perspex boxes filled with creepy crawlies such as cockroaches, rats and snakes crawling all over them on their heads. Oh and did we mention they had to try to complete puzzles while doing this? Matthew Wright was in tears before he even began and Alfonso didn’t fare much better fighting back the tears when he was bitten by one of the nasty animals.
Of course there were more troubles to come as the camps were hit with terrifying hail storms and winds and rain that battered down on them. It was revealed the weather became so extreme at one point that the powers that be almost evacuated the camps but luckily both the camps and the celebrities survived the ferocious weather in one piece!
So far the programme has been entertaining and disgusting in equal measures, it continues this week and we are sure it will prove even more so as it continues!
