George Clooney to Star in Downton Abbey Sketch for ITV’s Text Santa

Geoerg Clooney will appear in a special epsiode of Downton Abbey. The celebrity’s appearance will help publicize ITV’s public appeal for Text Santa. Text Santa is a charity initiative set up in 2011 by ITV to support UK charities during the Christmas period. The appeal to the public is to donate money mainly via text donation and profits from merchandise. Wikipedia  Downton Abbey’s is already extreme popularity and it’s viewership will be increased even more by George Clooney’s appearance.

George Clooney has been lined up to appear in a special episode of Downton Abbey.

The Hollywood actor is set to appear in a one-off sketch of the period drama for this year’s Text Santa charity appeal on ITV.

According to the Daily Telegraph, Clooney has already filmed his scenes and he will not appear in the main Christmas episode of the series.

The exact nature of the 53-year-old’s involvement is being kept under wraps and producers have also refused to share who will appear alongside him.

Text Santa is ITV’s annual Christmas fundraising event, which first launched in 2011, donating 100% of proceeds to selected charities.

This year the event is raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society, Guide Dogs, Marie Curie Cancer Care, Teenage Cancer Trust, Together for Short Lives and WellChild.

Downton Abbey is to screen the opening episode of series five at Leicester Square Empire cinema.

The event will be hosted by the Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund (CTBF) in association with ITV, Carnival and Telegraph Bespoke.

The screening will take place on September 17, four days before the latest series begins its broadcast on ITV.

There will be a pre-screening Q&A session with Downton creator Julian Fellowes, executive producer Gareth Neame and cast members including Jim Carter (Mr Carson).

CTBF chief executive Richard Wilson said: “This partnership strengthens our ties with the television industry, in which many of our beneficiaries work. Our choice of venue, the iconic Empire Leicester Square, further highlights the charity’s strong links in cinema and film.”

Downton Abbey is the latest television series to receive a cinema premiere, following the successful screenings of the new series of Doctor Who last month.

Series five of the period drama is set in the 1920s and will see a number of new faces join the cast, including Richard E Grant and Anna Chancellor.

George Clooney is a great choice for a guest actor on Downton Abbey. He has worldwide appeal and will draw many new eyes to the series. Text Santa did marvelously well and with celebrities like George Clooney promoting it, it should do even better this year.
