Loose Women household name quits the show after 17 series.
Loose women has long been a well-established lunchtime TV favourite with the British public. It was first aired in 1999 on ITV and charmed audiences with its laid back conversational tone, peppered with sharp wit and humour as well as the fantastic Loose Women weekly competitions! The panel of four women who hosted the programme has changed several times over the years all discussing a wide range of topics that covered everything from politics to cooking to good old celebrity gossip.
Carol Mcgiffin was the longest serving member of the show which averaged a whopping 1.2 million viewers every day in 2012 however she claimed that the time was right to move on and try something different. The 53 year old announced she was leaving ,and in an interview with the Sunday People ,explained her decision, stressing the need to spend more time focusing on her private life as one of her reasons for quitting the show. She said:
‘I’d been thinking about it for at least a year. It seems mad to quit one of the best jobs in the world – you talk for an hour with like-minded women and get paid.
‘But I felt I’d completely plundered my private life and exhausted my repertoire of anecdotes to the point of boring myself.’
During her time on the show she had racked up an impressive list of celebrity interviews including cheeky chappy Robbie Williams and Lead Singer of Roxy Music and highly acclaimed solo musician Brian Ferry who Mcgiffin described as her ‘musical hero.’
Mcgiffin has often hit the headlines in the past with her frank and outspoken opinions, her disparaging view of other celebrities (such as Katie price aka ‘Jordan’) and her relationship with toyboy and fiancé Mark Cassidy, who is 23 years her junior. She also often caused controversy with her ‘young at heart’ party lifestyle once claiming she liked to binge drink too much so will probably die young!
Since leaving the show Mcgiffin embarked on her solo celebrity career with an appearance in this year’s Celebrity Big Brother. The show, which came to an end in August saw Mcgiffin coming a very respectable fourth. During her time in the house she caused quite a stir as her flirtatious relationship with TOWIE’s Mario Falcone who, it seemed, had his eye on her from the outset immediately telling big brother in the diary room: She has got amazing legs for an older woman. Amazing. Her legs are the ideal legs on a woman.’ She also kept viewers entertained as her increasingly strained relationship with Coronation Street star Vicky Entwistle was depicted throughout the weeks.
Carol Mcgiffin appeared in a jaw dropping 1172 episodes of Loose Women before her final show. She commented on the remarkable friends she had made and the fun she had had while doing the show saying that though the time was right to move on to pastures new, she would certainly never forget it.
