Bill Roache is back on Coronation Street as Ken Barlow. Bill is the world’s longest serving soap actor, having been on Corrie since it began in 1960. Coronation Street won won a Continuing Drama Bafta on Sunday for it’s longevity. Bill Roache was acquitted of sex-related crimes recently and was pulled off of Corrie during the proceedings.
Corrie actor Bill Roache is back at work next week for the first time since being cleared of sex charges – to whisk Deirdre off on a romantic caravan holiday.
The star, 82, has been off our screens for more than a year, with his character Ken Barlow said to be away visiting his grandson Adam in Canada.
Roache has told friends he is thrilled to be back on the Cobbles and bosses are lining up a “hilarious” storyline for him and Anne Kirkbride – who plays his wife – to get stuck in to.
Executive producer Stuart Blackburn said: “I can’t wait to see Bill back on screen.
“I’m going to give Ken and Deirdre a little holiday – a caravan in North Wales. What could possibly go wrong?
“Ken raises the idea of going on holiday and she’s busy scanning the papers for places in Monaco or Barbados, something like that.
“Then he pulls up in a hired caravan going, ‘Let’s go to North Wales!’.”
The scenes – airing in the summer – will help lighten the mood of the ITV soap.
